For those of you who watch movies instantly on your PC or Mac, you may have noticed our player is much easier to install and use now with Silverlight. The good news is fewer problems for you. The bad news is that we are now overstaffed with technical specialists in our Customer Service (CS) group.
50 technical specialists will lose their jobs in January and 15 others will be transferred elsewhere in the company. That’s not something to celebrate. But from a technology point view, it’s pretty cool that the new Silverlight player is so much easier to install and use that Netflix needs fewer customer support folks.
(I genuinely feel bad for the Netflix staffers, especially at this normally festive time of year. Good luck to all them.)
